Project Details

Witech Excavating was awarded the US Aggregates – Lowell East overburden removal project in early November and mobilized mid-month, beginning full operations during the week of Thanksgiving. The scope of work focused on stripping and segregating overburden materials to prepare the site for current and future rock blasting operations.

Over the course of approximately one month, Witech safely moved ±175,000 cubic yards of material, including 65,000 cubic yards of topsoil and 110,000 cubic yards of sand. Topsoil was stripped and placed into designated stockpiles, while sand was separated and stockpiled for the client’s resale, ultimately exposing the rock formation needed for upcoming production.

The project presented challenges typical of late-season Midwest work, including heavy snowfall followed by rain, creating muddy and difficult site conditions. Witech’s planning, equipment coordination, and focus on site safety allowed crews to maintain production while ensuring safe travel and operations across the site.

Despite weather impacts, the project was completed ahead of schedule, meeting all production goals and exceeding client expectations. US Aggregates was extremely satisfied with the quality, efficiency, and safety of the work performed. The project was successfully led in the field by Superintendent Zach Peel, whose leadership played a key role in its timely and safe completion.
