Witech Excavating partnered with Lennar Homes on the Shorewood Town Center subdivision in Shorewood, Illinois, providing full site development across a 70-acre site. Awarded in September 2025, the project involved moving more than 390,000 cubic yards of material, including 110,000 cubic yards of topsoil excavation, 160,000 cubic yards of site cut-to-fill, and 207,000 square yards of fine grading. The primary goal was to complete phase one road paving before winter, with the remaining pavement and curbs scheduled for installation in the spring. One of the major challenges faced during construction was expanding a new basin into an existing borrow pit while maintaining proper site drainage. Additionally, the material on site was wet and silty, creating difficult conditions late in the season. To overcome this, Witech collaborated with Mount Carmel to stabilize and dry out the soil, ensuring work stayed on schedule. Despite the late start and challenging ground conditions, mass earthwork was completed successfully, allowing Lennar Homes to pave phase one roads before winter. Field leadership from superintendents Kyle Peel and Steve Supergan played a key role in keeping the project on track and achieving strong results.
