Witech Excavating partnered with ARCO/Murray to complete full site development for the Sanders Farm Industrial Park in Merrillville, Indiana — a large-scale industrial project consisting of four buildings totaling over 2 million square feet. Our team managed all phases of earthwork and site preparation, including the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), tree clearing and grubbing, mass excavation, fine grading, and aggregate placement for both slab-on-grade and concrete pavement areas.
The scope included mass grading of the entire site and storm basins, along with final grading and aggregate placement for Buildings 1 through 4, measuring 270,000 SF, 270,000 SF, 540,000 SF, and 1,000,000 SF respectively.
In total, Witech Excavating moved more than 1.1 million cubic yards of material, including 372,000 CY of topsoil excavation, 752,000 CY of site cut and borrow to structural fill, and 70,000 CY of trade spoils to structural fill. The team also completed 650,000 square yards of fine grading and placed 96,000 CY of topsoil and 154,000 tons of aggregate to establish durable subgrades and pavement bases across the development.
Under the leadership of General Superintendent Kyle Peel, Witech’s precision-driven approach and use of GPS-guided equipment ensured efficiency, accuracy, and seamless coordination with ARCO/Murray’s construction schedule. The result is a balanced, high-quality site ready to support long-term industrial operations and future expansion in Northwest Indiana.
