Witech Excavating partnered with P.T. Ferro on the Monee Storage project, a new truck and trailer storage lot located in Monee, Illinois. The project was designed to provide additional parking and storage space for semi-trailers and tractors, while also creating an opportunity for P.T. Ferro to utilize surplus asphalt grindings as the finished surface material. Witech’s scope consisted of the complete site earthwork package, including 59,410 CY of topsoil excavation, 82,270 CY of site cut-to-fill, 7,880 CY of borrow material, 18,850 CY of topsoil respread, and more than 105,000 SY of fine grading. Our team brought the site to the required clay subgrade, allowing P.T. Ferro to follow behind with placement of the asphalt grindings.
Construction began in spring 2026, bringing the challenges of wet weather and the need to continually manage drainage across the site to keep production moving. An active pipeline running across the entire property also required extensive coordination, including multiple onsite meetings and the establishment of approved crossings in accordance with the pipeline company’s requirements. Utilizing MTS tractors and scrapers for topsoil stripping and mass excavation, along with a CAT 352 excavator and CAT 740 articulated trucks for the pond excavation, the Witech team was able to maintain production through challenging conditions and ultimately complete the project ahead of schedule.
