Project Details

Witech turned a former 85-acre cornfield into a 1.5-million SF IKEA distribution center with 115 ft ceilings in Joliet, IL. for Gray Construction, with the help of engineering firm Jacob Heffner & Associates.

Using Quadtrac scrapers with pull pans, along with excavators and articulating haul trucks, crews completed more than 500,000 CY of earthwork, excavating and backfilling more than 1.2 million SF on an aggressive schedule.

In preparation for the concrete slab and pavement, Witech had to chemically modify more than 900,000 SY of soil and place more than 125,000 tons of aggregate for the building slab on grade and exterior pavement.
