Davey Road – Woodridge, IL

Project Details

Witech was awarded the earthwork scope for the Davey Road industrial development in Woodridge, Illinois, by Alston Construction in December 2025. The project required Witech to complete a large-scale mass earthwork operation while maintaining a demanding schedule and navigating several challenging site conditions.

The existing site was formerly a family farmhouse estate containing multiple buildings, barns, silos, and other structures. One of the most significant challenges was a large creek that ran through nearly the center of the project. Several areas along the creek required more than 25 feet of structural fill to bring the site to the required subgrade elevations. The project also included approximately 1,180 LF of retaining wall along the south side of the site, separating the future building area from the detention basin. In some locations, the retaining wall created elevation differences of approximately 20 feet, requiring close coordination between Witech and the wall contractor throughout the project.

Witech’s scope included approximately 36,990 CY of topsoil excavation, 109,084 CY of site cut-to-fill, 10,000 CY of borrow to fill, 10,000 CY of fill borrow, 8,230 CY of topsoil respread, 61,560 SY of fine grading, and 10,000 tons of stone placement.

To efficiently handle the size and varying conditions of the site, Witech utilized four MTS3630 tractors with pans for topsoil stripping and mass earthwork. A Cat 352 excavator and three Cat 740 haul trucks were used in the pond areas and other locations where traditional pan operations could not efficiently access or move material.

Despite the challenging site layout, significant fill requirements, retaining wall coordination, and a tight construction schedule, Witech maintained a strong focus on safe and efficient production. The team worked through changing site conditions and weather challenges while keeping the project moving toward its required milestones.
